    Fine value. The 2010 vintage (****) is fleshy, sweet-fruited and harmonious, with good intensity of fresh, ripe tropical-fruit flavours and a dry, rounded, lingering finish.

    Pale straw in colour with green hues. Bouquet of passionfruit, crushed herb, nettle, capsicum and citrus fruits. Punchy aromas in the tropical end of the spectrum with bright, green lime notes.     I was recently a guest of Mount Riley at a very special dinner where I was impressed by the wines in their "reserve" tier Seventeen Valley range. But as good as these wines are, the major focus of the family-owned Marlborough winery is its standard sauvignon blanc - a very tempting wine for the price and very nicely put together with plenty of flavour but without some of the overtly herbaceous characters that can be off putting in Kiwi savvy blancs. There are some delightful citrus and passionfruit notes on the bouquet and a purity on the palate that sets it apart. Racy, zingy and very dry, this is a lovely drink. Good value, too.

    A classically flavoured Sauvignon displaying lime zest, floral and herbaceous characters on the nose. The palate is lively and well framed showing bright acidity and a lovely dry finish. This is not as sweet-tasting as some, making it an ideal partner to elegant seafood dishes.

Marlborough’s wide diurnal temperature range together with a cool but dry summer led to perfect ripening conditions and resulted in fruit with excellent aromatics, intense flavour and great retention of natural acidity.

Our 2010 Sauvignon Blanc is a blend from multiple vineyard sites throughout Marlborough, with over 90% from the Wairau Valley. Grapes were crushed and destemmed prior to pressing and fermentation was induced by the introduction of carefully selected yeast strains. We fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve the lifted aromatics in this wine.
