This is the top-tier pinot from an established Marlborough producer. The Seventeen Valley site produces wines with rich dark fruits and big concentration. It's opulent with great structure and plenty of swagger. Look for fine tannins and balanced acidity as well as secondary characters of dried herbs, earthiness and toasted spice.
Moderately full, deep ruby-red colour with slight purple hues. This has a full and rich nose of ripe dark raspberry fruits along with notes of cherry liqueur, dark spices and a little oak toast. Medium-full bodied, concentrated, rich and luscious fruit flavours of dark raspberries form a deep core. This is primary in expression, with nuances of dark herbs and oak emerging in glass. The fruit is encased by very fine-grained tannins, and the extraction provides considerable structure and depth. The palate is very well-balanced, between fruit richness and textural mouthfeel, with fresh, lacy acidity resulting in tension and drive. The flavours lead to an elegant, dry finish with spiced red berry fruits. This is a tightly concentrated Pinot Noir with rich and ripe raspberry fruit flavours and serious, refined structure. Match with pork and lamb dishes, and Mediterranean fare over the next 5-6+ years.
